Imports to Hong Kong rose 57.8% year-on-year to HK$808.9 billion in September 2026, easing slightly from the 60.0% surge recorded in August. This was still the second-fastest pace of growth since 1974, largely driven by robust increases in inbound shipments of electrical machinery, apparatus, appliances and parts (+64.5%); telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing equipment (+81.7%); and office machines and automatic data processing equipment (+142.0%). Imports of non-ferrous metals also jumped 61.3%, while petroleum and related products advanced 69.3%.

By origin, the sharpest increases were seen in imports from South Korea (+231.1%), Vietnam (+118.7%), Thailand (+55.7%) and Mainland China (+55.6%). In contrast, imports from the United Kingdom edged up only 1.5%, and those from the United States grew 5.9%. Over the first nine months of the year, total imports were 45% higher than in the same period a year earlier.
