28.10.202604:11:23UTC+00Malaysia Producer Price Inflation Hits Nearly 5-Year High

Malaysia’s producer prices jumped 12.0% year-on-year in September 2026, up from a 10.7% increase in August and extending their growth streak to seven consecutive months. This was the fastest annual rise since November 2021, reflecting sustained cost pressures on producers amid ongoing supply disruptions linked to the conflict in the Middle East.

Manufacturing prices accelerated (9.4% vs 8.8% in August), led by notable increases in coke and refined petroleum products (35.0%) and in computer, electronic, and optical products (12.9%). Mining prices also surged (54.1% vs 41.2%), supported by robust growth in crude petroleum extraction (74.2%).

By contrast, price growth in agriculture eased (2.9% vs 4.6%), even though animal production costs continued to rise (11.9%). Utility prices also increased at a slower pace, with water supply up 5.5% (vs 7.8%) and electricity and gas up 3.2% (vs 6.4%).

On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 1.6% in September, following a 1.0% increase in August.
